Some interesting facts about Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire

Welwyn Garden City is a town within the Welwyn Hatfield borough of Hertfordshire, England. It is located approximately 20 miles (32 km) from Kings Cross. Welwyn Garden City was the second garden city in England (founded 1920) and one of the first new towns (designated 1948).

It is unique in being both a garden city and a new town and exemplifies the physical, social and cultural planning ideals of the periods in which it was built. Because of its historical importance it attracts visitors from around the world.

Welwyn Garden City was founded by Sir Ebenezer Howard in 1920 after his previous experience in Letchworth Garden City. Howard called for the creation of planned cities that would combine the advantages of urban and rural areas and to avoid the disadvantages of both. Garden cities and the Association of urbanism defined a garden city:

"A city designed for healthy living and industry of a size that allows the fullness of social life, but not larger, surrounded by a rural belt, all land is publicly owned or in trust for the community"

In 1919, Howard arranged for the purchase of land in Hertfordshire had already found a suitable site. 29. The company in April 1920, Welwyn Garden City Limited was founded to design and build a garden city, which is chaired by Sir Theodore Chambers. Louis de Soissons was appointed architect and urban planner, and Frederick Osborn, secretary. The first house was occupied just before Christmas 1920.

The city is laid out along tree-lined avenues and neo-Georgian town center. It has its own environmental legislation, the system of management scheme, Welwyn Garden City. Every road has a wide margin of grass. The backbone of the city is Parkway, shopping center, or the scenic Parkway, nearly a mile long. View along the Parkway to the south was once described as one of the most beautiful views of the city in the world. Old houses are west of the Parkway and east of the new houses

Planners originally intended that all the inhabitants of the garden city would buy in a store and established stores Welwyn, a monopoly that has caused some local resentment. Commercial pressures have been obtained much more competition and variety stores and Welwyn in 1984 was taken over by John Lewis Partnership. A shopping center, Howard Center, was built in the 1980s, incorporating the original station.

Welwyn Garden City was designated a new town in 1948 when the company presents its Welwyn Garden City Welwyn Garden City assets Development Corporation. This is a sports center, Gosling Sports Centre, the dry ski slope, golf course, tennis courts, indoor and outdoor pools, squash courts, football pitch, athletics track, gym and bowls. A Panshanger airport is currently used in North London Flying School. King George V playing field, the boundary of the old town of Hatfield Hyde was once used in the formation of England football team. There are three golf courses: Panshanger, owns and operates the City Council, is Mill Green Golf Gypsy Lane Welwyn Garden City Golf Club, where Nick Faldo was once a member. Stanborough Park and the lakes had a free place for the annual water carnival and fireworks, and fireworks on November 5, both of which attracted large crowds from great distances.

Roman Baths has been preserved in a steel vault below the junction 6 of the A1 (M) and is open to visitors.
