Some interesting facts about Shepperton, Surrey

Shepperton is a town in the borough of Spelthorne, Surrey, England. To the South it is bounded by the river Thames at Desborough Island and is bisected by the M3 motorway. It is equidistant between the north Surrey towns of Chertsey to the west and Sunbury-on-Thames to the east.

The name is derived from 'Shepherd's Town' and the name of one of the older streets, Sheep Walk, still reflects that origin. Shepperton in the Domesday Book of 1086 was called Scepertone. It was held by Westminster Abbey. Its domesday assets were: 8 hides. It had 7 ploughs, pasture for 7 ploughs, 1 weir worth 6s 8d. It rendered £6.

Church Square area, near the river is the original village. When the railroad was built miles north, linking Waterloo station in London Shepperton, the village has been extended in that direction. Shepperton Staines district is a rural parish in Middlesex 1894-1930, when it became part of the Sunbury-on-Thames Urban District. E 'was transferred to Surrey in 1965 instead of becoming part of Greater London, although the city is still designated in accordance with Middlesex in the Royal Mail postal system. The city belongs to the Ford Hall in Lower Hamlet.

Shepperton is home to Thamesmead School, who was until recently known for his music, concerts, particularly rock and pop music, directed by Dennis Elvie. Former pop / rock students include Ben Smyth - bass player for the band Rooster, Steven Ruston - bassist Of Dork Son and Richard Archer - singer charts Hard-Fi. Another former pupil of Thamesmead School, Dan Melchior, a singer / songwriter / guitarist who now lives in the United States. Also filmed in Thamesmead school was the short film "Zombie Breath", which enjoyed moderate success on Youtube. The child actor Mark Lester, who starred in "Oliver" also participated Halliford School in 1970.
