Some interesting facts about Oxford, Oxfordshire

Oxford was first occupied in Saxon times and was originally known as "Oxenaforda" meaning "Ford of the Ox". Ford are very important before the days of bridges It began with the founding of the convent St. Frideswide in the 8th century and the first written mention in the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle for the 912th year

In the 10th century Oxford became an important military frontier town between the kingdoms of Mercia and Wessex and was repeatedly attacked by the Danes. St Frideswide is the patron saint of the city and the university.

In 1191, said a charter city in Latin:

"Be it known to all present and future that we, the citizens of Oxford is a town in the city and the Guild have given, and this our present Charter, to strengthen the island's donation Midney all matters relating to the fact that the Church of S.
