Some interesting facts about Crowthorne

Crowthorne is a village and civil society, the church Bracknell Forest district of south-east Berkshire. It has a population of 6711. Crowthorne is best known as Broadmoor Hospital, one of three maximum-security psychiatric hospitals in England, which is located in the village.

The village was only a small village until the Wellington College was opened to educate the son of the officers of the British Army in 1859, followed by the Broadmoor in 1863. Crowthorne railway station, originally known as Wellington College Crowthorne station, opened in 1860, and the village is growing rapidly. In the 1960s opened the Transport Research Laboratory in Crowthorne, and is now the largest employer of those who do not commute.

The urban area continues Crowthorne in the neighboring parish of Wokingham Without the majority of the village is located in Bracknell Forest District. Edgbarrow Woods is between Sandhurst and Crowthorne.

There is a school that covers all Crowthorne and Little Sandhurst, Edgbarrow school. There are also four secondary schools, primary Hatch walk, Wildmoor Heath (originally called Broadmoor Elementary), Crowthorne Oaklands Junior Cofe Primary. However, children tend to be very Cofe sent Ranelagh School in Bracknell and the brightest in the village often win places at grammar schools or reading Kendrick.

The Crowthorne Natural History Society was founded in 1968.

Crowthorne Carnival has two years, usually occurs in early July. Theme for 2008 was fun and fantasy, the 2010 theme is the rhythm of life. Carnival as a whole is organized Crowthorne Carnival Association, but individual events can be organized in schools, groups and businesses. Crowthorne Amateur Theatre was founded in 1978.

Crowthorne Symphony Orchestra conducted by Robert Roscoe, based in the city. The orchestra gives three concerts a year, usually in Wellington College, and has also opened a workshop in September for full orchestra of strings and a workshop in May The orchestra is celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2011.

Crowthorne Cricket Club plays its home games at the grounds of Wellington College. Cricket League play Saturday in the Berkshire League and friendly on Sunday. The club finished third in the Berkshire League Div 2 in 2010 with the first master drummer Pete Northall and Dan Partridge, the main player.
