Some interesting facts about Wickford

The city has existed since before the 975th There are signs that the area was inhabited in prehistoric times probably by a tribe of Britons called Trinobantes, Roman and Saxon. Wickford name is of Saxon origin, WIC, a village of farms, accommodation, castle or dairy products and Ford is a shallow river crossing.

Wickford Middle Ages was known as Wiceford, Wikford, Wygeford, Wicfort Wincfort and, as a reference to the Domesday Book in 1086 before the 20th century was a farming village of Wickford.
