Waterloo is in London, England, and part of the London Borough of Lambeth. It is located 1 mile (1.6 km) east of Charing Cross. The area is part of the business improvement district known as the Waterloo district, which includes Cut and Old Vic and Young Vic theater, as some sections of the London Borough of Southwark.

The area was a swamp at the northern tip of the ancient church Lambeth. E 'known as the Marsh Lambeth, but settled in the 18th century and is remembered in the name of Lower Marsh street.

Waterloo is related to the component area on the north bank of the Thames at Waterloo Bridge. The first bridge at the site was opened in 1817 and the present bridge was opened in 1945. The bridge was named to commemorate the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. Waterloo Road also dates from this period, built on land belonging to the Archbishop of Canterbury. The Church of St. John the Evangelist, Waterloo Road was built from 1822 by the Commissioners for the construction of new churches that the people of the parish of Lambeth has increased significantly.
