Some interesting facts about Walworth SE17

Walworth is a center of the city in the London Borough of Southwark. Walworth probably derives its name from the Old English "Wealhworth" which means Wales (UK) closes. It is located 1.9 miles (3.1 km) southeast of Charing Cross and near Camberwell and Elephant and Castle.

The main streets are the Old Kent Road and Walworth Road, Walworth. Had a common surrounded by streets with houses on one side, the city on the other. The whole area is covered by housing.

Walworth appears in the Domesday Book of 1086 as Waleorde. He was tried by the Archbishop of Canterbury Lanfranc of Bainiard. Its Domesday Assets were: 3 ½ hides, 1 church, 4 plows, 8 acres (32,000 m2) in a meadow. He paid £ 3.

John Smith House in Walworth Road, and was renamed in memory of John Smith, who was the leader of the Labour Party from 1992 until his untimely death in 1994. A former head of the Labour Party, was often seen in news reports during elections and in the background as people came and went from stormy meetings of the Executive Committee of the Labour Party. That was until recently used by the London Borough of Southwark that the house of his department of education, but is now available.

Church of St Peter, Walworth, built around 1825, is an excellent example of the neoclassical church built by Sir John Soane. This is an indication of the wealth of middle-class merchants who lived in the district to pay an architect of such importance. Charles was born in Walworth Common and baptized in St. Peter Upfold. The church is the Park of the Apes - which once housed a collection of animals kept by a reverend from the Church past, but now is a lovely garden.

Manor Place Baths, is a former house in Manor Place to wash the Walworth Road. It is a Class II listed building. The building was renovated Kagyu Samye Dzong Buddhist Centre, a lease of five years from 2005. They opened as the center of London, called Manor Place Samye Dzong, 17 March 2007. Close to the deposit of money laundering.

Walworth also houses Pullens buildings - a mix of Victorian living space / work and construction sites. Most apartments are 1 bedroom apartments and still connect to one of these workshops three meters (Illife Yard, Peacock Yard and another).
