Some interesting facts about Stepney E1

Since most of the East End of London, Stepney was a swamp sparsely populated until the 19th century, when the development of the London docks and railways, in conjunction with demolition, has pushed the poor immigrants and refugees looking for work in a variety of accommodation cheap to build.

The first community developed around the church of St. Dunstan, which was founded in 923. At the time of the Domesday Book survey of 1085 land was held by the Bishop of London and 32 hides important, principally to work over the meadows, wood 500 pigs, and plants 4. Stepney was a big ancient parish in the hundred Ossulstone Middlesex bounded by Bromley and West Ham in the Thames to the east, south, Shoreditch and Hackney, north London and the City and Liberties of the Tower of London, s' to the west. The parish includes the hamlets of Mile End Old Town, Mile End New Town, and Ratcliff. In his position at the beginning it also included Whitechapel, Wapping, Bow Stratford, Shadwell, Spitalfields, Bethnal Green, Limehouse and Poplar. Over time, the parish has been upset with these colonies form new independent parishes, leaving a residue of 830 acres, parish (340 acres) of which Mile End Old Town, Mile End and New Town Ratcliff.

Stepney is the Anglican bishop of the diocese of London, which includes the districts of London, Hackney, Islington and Tower Hamlets, and has a suffragan bishop.

Metropolitan Borough of Stepney was founded in 1900 and disbanded in 1965 when it was absorbed into the new London Borough of Tower Hamlets who currently manages the region.

Thanks to a home at a good price on the East End of London and Stepney has been home to immigrants who have enriched the diversity of culture and history of the region, such as the Huguenots in the 17th century, the Irish in 18 century, fleeing pogroms Ashkenazi Jews in Eastern Europe in the 19th century, and the community of Bangladesh live in the East End in the 1960's. The area still contains a number of immigrants, especially Asian families young and old East Enders, students, and the beginning of a middle class youth. Based on the 2001 census, Bangladesh were the largest ethnic group (43%) and white British (39%).

Stepney Green Street developed as a residential area in Mile End in the 15th century and is now a conservation area. The brewery was founded in 1738 that developed in Charrington and Co. in 1897. The brewery building, Anchor Brewery, was on the north side of Mile End Road, Stepney green face, and is now the site of the docking unit retail property at Henderson Global Investors, if the authorities are still brewing in the corner of Mile End Road and the Cephas Avenue.

St Dunstan's, which was founded in 923, is the oldest church in Stepney. The present building dates mainly from the 15th century. St Dunstan's has a long relationship with the sea, which is responsible for registering births British maritime, marriages and deaths than the 19 century.
