Some interesting facts about Crowborough

Different derivations for the meaning of the name of the city have been presented. Before becoming a colony of these documents, Crohbergh local names, Crowbergh, and Crowboro Croweborowghe Crowbarrow. Crohas (Old English: golden yellow or saffron and Berg meaning hill). Gorse, which grows abundantly in the area of Crowborough Beacon, and its yellow flowers and may have contributed to its meaning.

In 1734, a local benefactor, Sir Henry Fermor Church, and bequeathed the money for a school of charity in favor of "a very ignorant and horrible people" who lived in Rotherfield part of the "at or near a place called Crowborough and Ashdown Forest". The church, dedicated to All Saints, and the school (primary) is still alive today.

In the late 19th century, it was promoted as a health resort based on the high altitude, the forest and surrounding hills. Real time as far as to call it in Scotland, in Sussex.

A novel of World War II called "New English" Graham Greene's book, the last word (1990) is on a winter morning in Crowborough. Greene Crowborough parents lived through the Second World War.

Crowborough because the place itself was born in 1880, when the ecclesiastical parish was formed near Rotherfield; civil parish was founded April 6, 1905, which in turn has become a city May 24, 1988.

Crowborough by the seat of Wealden District Council, Hailsham, 13 miles (20.8 km) south-west, this division is due to the transfer of Hailsham in 2010 alone.

The highest point of the city is 242 meters above sea level. This summit is the highest point of the Weald high and the second highest point in East Sussex (Ditchling Beacon is the highest). Its relative height is 159 m, ie, Crowborough can be regarded as one of Marilyn England. The summit is not marked on the ground.

A main event in the calendar of the city is celebrated Guy Fawkes Night, celebrated annually on 05 November. An average attendance of 5,000 people down to earth Goldsmiths free to attend this event City Hall. However, this is overshadowed by the antics of "Noche de Carnaval", which sees the city taking to the streets.
