Some interesting facts about Chobham

The village was located in the Godley hundred, an administrative area of Saxony.

Chobham appears in the Domesday Book as Cebeham. He was held by Chertsey Abbey. Its Domesday assets were: 10 hides, 1 church, 1 chapel, 16 plows, 10 acres (40,000 m2) of meadows, forests a value of 130 pigs. He paid £ 15 10s 0D.

Eglise Saint-Laurent is on Main Street. His first works date from 1080, though it may have been the first church on the site. It is dedicated to San Lorenzo, who was martyred in Rome in 258.

Then, surrounded by Chobham Common, which was little agricultural value moors, the town was a poor, rural isolation. During medieval times, Chobham was part of the estate of the Abbey of Chertsey. The direction of the abbots was conservative and restrictive.

When the railways were built in the 19th century, the outline went north and south of the village, passing through the neighboring villages came under Sunningdale and Woking. Chobham and is largely undeveloped, while Woking grew up in the great city it is today. Chobham is probably most famous for the tank factory that has already been dug in Chobham Common Chobham armor and created. Chobham Rugby Club has 6 senior teams, 1st XV, 2nd XV (guns), 3rd XV, 4 XV (Devils), 5 XV (Crusaders) and veterans (Martyrs). 1. XV play in London Division 1 South (level 6), Guns (2nd XV) in the Canterbury Shield 4 have won the Premiership in 08/09 Surrey. The 3rds, 5ths Devils and played in John O'Neill and Partners Surrey reverse leagues. Devils won their League Cup in 2006 / 7 season. Chobham won 3SW London in 2006/07.

In 2008/09, the weapons Surrey won the Premier League, has won three Surrey a combination of the league, the Devils came finalists combination Surrey League 2 and the Crusaders won the league Surrey combination 4. A very successful season. The first XV took part in the EDF National Cup for the first time in its history.

Surrey Senior Club won the President's Award of 200808/09 most successful club in the county.

There is a large junior section with many mini-County and Divisional players. A product of the youth system, Dan Frazier, has signed with NEC Harlequins at 18 and is ready for Esher in National Division 1.

Chobham is a thriving cricket club, who are four teams in the league on Saturday and Sunday the two sides of life, both playing good cricket. Cricket Club is also a rapidly growing Colt, and run the teams U9 through U17. All age groups compete for the West Surrey Youth Cricket League and representatives of the West Surrey Colts teams.

Chobham & District Rifle Club celebrates its centenary this year (2009). Throughout its 100 years of shooting between Club teams and individuals active in the county and national league competitions for club and all members are encouraged to take the competition. Many members actively participate in public meetings organized by other clubs throughout the southeast. These competitions are held on weekends during the summer months, 0.22 rifle subjects over 50 yards / meters and 100 meters outdoors. The highlight of the shooting in August, when the British Championships held at Bisley - shooters of all ability can enjoy the atmosphere of an international contest and compete in a week of events.
