Some interesting facts about Borehamwood

Until 1909, the city became a part of the ancient parish of Elstree, the two still share a local council, Elstree and Borehamwood Town Council.

Since the 1920s, the city became known as one of the main centers of the film in the UK, and later television industries due to the presence of production studios.

After the Second World War, the city's population has increased dramatically, and most of the homes Londoners agreed displaced, many of which are now privately owned. High-speed rail link to central London have brought the city to become a predominantly residential neighborhood.

Borehamwood is currently undergoing substantial transformation of the unit that has seen hundreds of new homes built in the last five years. Two other developments under construction and more are expected.

In addition, the studies, the city is also home to many offices and retail stores and light industry.

Since the 1920s, the city has been home to movie studios and many plans of many of its streets are included in the final cuts of the British films of the 20th century. This earned him the nickname "Hollywood UK". While most of these studies have been closed, two left.

Many famous films such as The Young Ones, Summer Holiday, Doctor Zhivago, Confessions of .... a series of films 2001: A Space Odyssey, Moby Dick, The Dam Busters, 633 Squadron, The Shining, starring Jack Nicholson, the first three Indiana Jones films and the first three Star Wars movies were partially shot a former Associated Studios British Shenley Road. These were partly demolished in 1980 the way to Tesco Extra on one side and an office complex in the second.

The area between the supermarket and office buildings are all that remain of the original study, which was significantly reduced in size and utility for the production accordingly. Elstree Studios, where most recently used for the popular TV series Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? and Big Brother and bigger films. Production offices Inspector Morse TV series were based on studies, and although the series supposedly set in Oxford, several bridges (banks, shops etc) were filmed in the streets of Borehamwood.

The first British National Studies from Clarendon Road to a local "Douglas Fairbanks Studios" (later owned by Lew Grade of ATV) is now the BBC Elstree Studios. The studios have been home over the years, the films of Alfred Hitchcock, blackmail, Gerry Anderson television series UFO, not to mention the Muppet Show was there too, Jim Henson, and now BBC TV's popular soap, EastEnders and popular medical drama Holby City. Episode of Judge John Deed with sets of Tesco Extra, Borehamwood, but crossed out, and Lewes is written in its place. The study is also used in Question Time.

Several other studies, including the Danziger Studio Gate near Elstree Studios were demolished. MGM-British Studios complex (demolished in the 1970s), so the production of many famous films like 2001: A Space Odyssey, Where Eagles Dare and Goodbye, Mr. Chips, and many ITV television series, notably The Prisoner.

Borehamwood we have seen pictures of many series, including the popular Most Haunted Live on Halloween, which is named Nightmare on Elstree although all the buildings studied were in Borehamwood, except Holly Bush Inn, located in proximity to Elstree McDonalds drive is which was the Red Lion pub. This pub was faced with the Associated British Studios in Shenley Road and actors like Robert Mitchum was often seen drinking in there.
