Some interesting facts about Aldershot

The name may be derived from the name of "Alder" trees are found in the area (Holt-Alder Alder Coppice and the importance of trees), indicating that it was a wet, swampy place. Aldershot, Alreshete, dating back to Anglo-Saxon settlement. Aldershot was part of the old 100 Crondall in 1086 map of Hampshire Domesday Book 1722 edition of William Camden Britannia or Geographical Indication, Great Britain and Ireland, shows a symbol of life in Aldershot Crundhal (Crondall) hundred.

By 1850, Aldershott (as I wrote then) was little known. The area was a vast expanse of common ground, a lonely wasteland unsuitable for most forms of agriculture with small populations. As it existed at the time of the Domesday survey in 1086, large-scale settlement of Crondall in the northeast corner of Hampshire was definitely Scandinavian between the customs of this great mansion, which included Crondall, Yateley, Farnborough and Aldershot, the exclusive inheritance of the eldest daughter of son's absence prevailed, as in much of Cumberland, and this is a unique custom duvet. He was considered a dangerous area (at one point it was almost as bad as the reputation of Hounslow Heath), the London section of Winchester number that has been there between Bagshot and Farnham (now known as the Farnborough Road) has been the scene of the robbery. There are many stories of bandits holding the coaches.

In 1854, during the Crimean War was the heat around Aldershot established as a military base with Aldershot at the center. This led to a rapid expansion of Aldershot's population going from 875 in 1851 to over 16,000 in 1861 (about 9000 of the army). The city continued to grow and peaked in the 1950s.

Queen Victoria was a regular visitor to Aldershot and the Royal Pavilion was built for use. In its review of the Jubilee (June 21, 1887), 60 000 soldiers lined up in the long valley. A major re-construction of the barracks were made between 1961 and 1969 Partnership Building Design. The city was named "Experimental Site" by the government and the various technologies of new construction, has worked with mixed success.

In 1974, Aldershot and Farnborough Urban District District merged to form the town of Rushmoor under the provisions of the Local Government Act 1972. It is said that the center of Aldershot fell in the second half of the 20th century.

The Aldershot Military Tattoo has been an annual international event. Between 1922 and 1939, the Searchlight Tattoo Aldershot Military held at Rushmoor Arena presented spectacular displays from all branches of service. This was the first military tattoo in Britain in the interwar years, the war years, before there was an Edinburgh Tattoo, the show ran Aldershot scale and spectacle. His show post-war Army format, has been an annual event as the economic conditions so it was canceled in 2010.

Aldershot on 22nd February 1972 was seen as one of the worst attacks of the IRA on the mainland. Seven people, all civilian support personnel such as cooks, cleaners, and a Catholic priest, died in a car bomb attack on 16 Parachute Brigade headquarters at Aldershot disorder. This explosion was later claimed that the Official IRA, as revenge for Derry shooting that became known as Bloody Sunday. Until then, the army was a big city, but the attack led to immediate action to ensure the safety of military goods with the construction of barbed wire on top. Other security measures, including armed patrols also carried out.

After the bombing, it was decided to erect a plaque in the park of a new building a mile away in the heart of Aldershot. However, this was fired soon, and once the building was demolished in the attack, the plate was moved from its current location on the site of the attack. The grounds and location of memory has been preserved by the military since.
