Acton is a district of west London, England, located in the London Borough of Ealing. It is located 6.4 miles (10 kilometers) west of Charing Cross.

At the time of the census of 2001, Acton, where the Department of East Acton, Acton Central, South Acton and Southfield, had a population of 53 689 people.

Acton means "house oak" or "held oak" and is derived from the Anglo-Saxon ac (oak) and tun (court). Originally an ancient village (mentioned in the Domesday Book), London has increased in Acton has been recorded in the city. Today Acton is located mainly in the London Borough of Ealing, although some of East Acton in the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, and a small part of South Acton, London Borough of Hounslow. Acton is home to more stations than any other London area, seven stations on the Acton site's functionality on their behalf.

Central Acton is located at the old main road between London and Oxford (Uxbridge Road) and several inns along it date back several centuries as stopping places for travelers. Today, the main route between London and Oxford (A40 dual carriageway) bypasses Acton Central, but passes through North Acton.

The end of the 17th century a number of sources found in the north-east of Acton, for a while ', came to the health spas. As the local freshwater Acton became known as laundries and in the late 19th century there were about 170 establishments in South Acton. These laundries operate hotels and the rich in London's West End, which nickname "soapsuds island".

The Braybrook Street Acton achieved notoriety August 12, 1966, when three policemen were killed after being arrested three men in a car that was parked on the street Vanguardia standard after realizing he had no tax disc. Exactly four months later, Harry Roberts, Jack Witney and John Duddy was convicted of three counts of murder at the Old Bailey and sentenced to life imprisonment. Duddy has remained in prison until his death in 1981 at the age of 52. Witney was paroled in 1991 after serving 25 years in prison and died in 1999 at age 69 after being attacked at his home in Bristol. Roberts remains in prison more than 40 years after being captured and is now one of the most compliant prisoners in England and Wales.

Acton Parish has formed a local board of health 1865, becoming a city in 1894. The town was incorporated as the municipal district of Acton in 1921. This authority, combined with common Ealing Southall and to form the London Borough of Ealing

Acton become an urban district and then municipal borough of Middlesex 1894-1965. Its former area was used as part of the London Borough of Ealing in 1965.

In the 20th century Acton was an important industrial center employing thousands of people, especially in motor vehicles and components. Businesses in North Acton has merged with the large industrial concentrations of Harlesden and Park Royal. Further south in Acton Vale had famous names, including Napier & Son (motors), H. Bronnley & Co. (soap) Eversen & Vignola (electrical equipment), Lucas CAV (electric car), Vandervell Products (tenant), T. Wall & Son (Sausages Wall and Wall's Ice Cream) and Wilkinson Sword (swords and razors). Acton is now mainly residential, but he supports light industry, especially in the North-Park Royal, and south near the border of Chiswick. Waitrose began in Acton, as Waite, Rose and Taylor - on High Street near the police station - with its second leg opeing in the church land route in 1913.
