Some interesting facts about Chobham, Surrey

The village lay within the Godley hundred, a Saxon administrative area.

Chobham appears in Domesday Book as Cebeham. It was held by Chertsey Abbey. Its Domesday assets were: 10 hides; 1 church, 1 chapel, 16 ploughs, 10 acres (40,000 m2) of meadow, woodland worth 130 hogs. It rendered £15 10s 0d.

St Lawrence Church is on the High Street. Its earliest parts date from about 1080 although there may have been an earlier church on the site. It is dedicated to St Lawrence, who was martyred in Rome in 258.

Then, surrounded by Chobham Common, which was little agricultural value moors, the town was a poor, rural isolation. During medieval times, Chobham was part of the estate of the Abbey of Chertsey. The direction of the abbots was conservative and restrictive.

When the railroads were built in the 19th century, the scheme was to the north and south of the village, passing through nearby villages and small Sunningdale and Woking. Chobham and has remained largely underdeveloped, while Woking grew in the great city it is today. Chobham is probably most famous for the tank factory that has already been excavated in Chobham Common Chobham armor and created. The first XV play in London South Division 1 (level 6), Cannon (Second XV) to be in Canterbury Shield after winning 4 in Surrey Premier 8.9. 3rds, 5ths and the Devils game with John O'Neil and Partners Surrey Reverse alloys. The Devils won the League Cup 2006 / 7 season.

Chobham won 3SW London in 2006/07.

In 2008/09, the weapons Surrey won the Premier League, has won three Surrey a combination of the league, the Devils came finalists combination Surrey League 2 and the Crusaders won the league Surrey combination 4. A very successful season. The first XV took part in the EDF National Cup for the first time in its history.

Surrey won the Senior Club Presidents Award 200808/09 and most successful club in the county.

There is a large junior section with many mini-County and Divisional players. A product of the youth system, Dan Frazier, has signed with NEC Harlequins at 18 and is ready for Esher in National Division 1.

Chobham is a thriving cricket club, who are four teams in the league on Saturday and Sunday the two sides of life, both playing good cricket. Cricket Club is also a rapidly growing Colt, and run the teams U9 through U17. All age groups compete for the West Surrey Youth Cricket League and representatives of the West Surrey Colts teams.

Chobham & District Rifle Club celebrates its centenary this year (2009). The whole 100 years should be actively shooting clubs and individuals to County and National Club Championships, and all members are encouraged to shoot competitively. Many members are actively involved in open meetings organized by other clubs across the southeast. These competitions are held on weekends during the summer months, and rifle prone for more than 50 feet / 0.22 meters and 100 meters outdoors. The highlight of filming in August, when the British Championships at Bisley - shooters of all ability to enjoy the atmosphere of international competition and compete in a week full of events.
