Some interesting facts about Borehamwood, Hertfordshire

Up until 1909, the town was part of the ancient parish of Elstree; the two still share a local council, Elstree and Borehamwood Town Council.

From the 1920s onwards, the town became known as one of the main centres of the UK film, and later television, industries due to the presence of production studios.

After the Second World War, the city's population increased dramatically, with large areas of social housing on the site for Londoners displaced many privately owned. Fast rail connections to Central London led the city to become a primarily residential neighborhood.

Borehamwood is experiencing a big change in homes, which has seen hundreds of new homes built in the last five years. Currently, two other developments are built and are expected.

In addition to studies, the city is also home to many shops, offices and light industry.

Since 1920 the city was home to several movie studios, and many of the shots of the streets are included in the final 20 pieces English Movies of the century. This earned it the nickname of "British Hollywood". Although most of these studies is now closed, two remain.

Many famous films such as The Young Ones, Summer Holiday, Doctor Zhivago, Confessions of .... a series of films 2001: A Space Odyssey, Moby Dick, The Dam Busters, 633 Squadron, The Shining, starring Jack Nicholson, the first three Indiana Jones films and the first three Star Wars movies were partially shot a former Associated Studios British Shenley Road. These were partly demolished in 1980 the way to Tesco Extra on one side and an office complex in the second.

The area between the supermarket and office buildings are all that remain of the original study, which was much smaller in size and usefulness to production companies accordingly. Elstree Studios, where he most recently for the popular television series Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? and Big Brother, and several important features. Production Offices television series Inspector Morse were based on studies, and although the series had been to Oxford, the scene of several external (banks, shops, etc) were filmed on the streets of Borehamwood.

The former British National Studios Clarendon Road known locally as "The studies of Douglas Fairbanks" (which was then owned by Lew Grade ATV) is now the BBC Elstree studios. Studies have, in recent years, Alfred Hitchcock film Blackmail home, Gerry Anderson television series UFO to say nothing of The Muppet Show Jim Henson was also back, and now the soap's most popular BBC television, EastEnders and popular medical drama Holby City. A Judge John Deed episode includes scenes from the Tesco Extra, but with bars and Borehamwood Lewes written for him. The study has also been used to question time.

Several other studies including studies Study Elstree Gate near Danzig were demolished. MGM-British complex studies (demolished in the early 1970) saw the production of many well-known films like 2001: A Space Odyssey, Where Eagles Dare and Goodbye, Mr. Chips, and many ITV television series, including The prisoner.

Borehamwood we have seen pictures of many series, including the popular Most Haunted Live on Halloween, which is named Nightmare on Elstree although all the buildings studied were in Borehamwood, except Holly Bush Inn, located in proximity to Elstree McDonalds drive is which was the Red Lion pub. This pub was faced with the Associated British Studios in Shenley Road and actors like Robert Mitchum was often seen drinking in there.
