Some interesting facts about Aldershot, Hampshire

The name may have derived from the name of "Alder" trees found in the area (Alder-holt meaning copse of Alder trees), indicating that it was a wet, boggy place. Aldershot, Alreshete, dates back to an Anglo-Saxon settlement. Aldershot was included as part of the old Hundred of Crondall referred to in the Domesday Book of 1086. The map of Hampshire in the 1722 edition of William Camden's Britannia or Geographical Description of Britain and Ireland shows a symbol for habitation in Aldershot in the Crundhal (Crondall) hundred.

Before 1850, Aldershot (because it was written then) relatively unknown. The area was a vast expanse of common land, a lonely wasteland suitable for most types of farming with the sparse population. Because it was at the time of the Domesday survey in 1086, a comprehensive solution for Crondall in the north-east of the corner of Hampshire was definitely another of the Scandinavian customs of the main house, which contained Crondall, Yateley, Farnborough and Aldershot, the legacy Only the eldest daughter of a breach of the boys won, because more than most of the Cumberland, and this is particularly the Norwegian custom. Queen Victoria was a regular visitor to Aldershot and the Royal Pavilion was erected for its use. Her Jubilee Review (June 21, 1887), 60,000 soldiers deployed along the valley. It stretched from the Basingstoke Canal to Caesar's camp. Rights and VIPs throughout the British Empire and Europe attended the event.

A major renovation of the barracks was conducted between 1961 and 1969 by Building Design Partnership. The city was named "test site" by the government and various new building technologies have been used with mixed success.

In 1974, Aldershot and Farnborough Urban District District merged to form the town of Rushmoor under the provisions of the Local Government Act 1972. It is said that the center of Aldershot fell in the second half of the 20th century.

Dick Turpin is said to serve as the area to take their place next to the nearby Farnborough, and there have been sightings Springheeled Jack.

The Aldershot Military Tattoo is an annual international event. Between 1922 and 1939, the Military Searchlight Tattoo Aldershot Rushmoor held at the Arena has a spectacular display of all branches of service. This was the first military tattoo in the UK during the war years, before there was an Edinburgh Tattoo, the Aldershot show took the initiative on the scale and spectacle. The format of the post-war Army Hall was an annual event until the financial situation has seen its cancellation in 2010.

And '22 Aldershot in February 1972 was seen as one of the worst attacks of the IRA on the mainland. Seven people, all civilian support personnel such as cooks, cleaners, and a Catholic priest, died in a car bomb attack on 16 Parachute Brigade headquarters at Aldershot disorder. This explosion was later claimed that the Official IRA, as revenge for Derry shooting that became known as Bloody Sunday. Until then, the army was a big city, but the attack led to immediate action to ensure the safety of military goods with the construction of barbed wire on top. Other security measures, including armed patrols also carried out.

After the attack, it was decided to erect a monument on the basis of a significant new building about a mile from the center of the town of Aldershot. This, however, was soon dismissed, and when the building was demolished attack, a plaque was moved to its present location of the bomb itself. Criteria and present a memorial has been preserved by the military then.
